Brigita General Clinic

The project

Entrance to the Brigita Clinic.

Our Mission: Providing health service of highest quality for the people in southern Tanzania
Our Vision:  Access to modern diagnostics and therapy for all people in Tanzania, irrespective of the social status

Like in a general practitioner's clinic, we treat patients with many different diseases such as infectious diseases (malaria), non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer, and many others, sterility patients, pregnant women and children. We have an HIV clinic and treat patients with Tuberculosis as outpatients. Good diagnostics are particularly important to us. For this purpose, we have purchased several ultrasound and ECG devices and also set up a well-equipped laboratory, where we can check the basal diagnostic tests such as Haemoglobin, Malaria, Urinalysis, etc. However, special examinations such as liver and kidney values, Uric acid and other laboratory tests can also be carried out. There is even a special device for molecular tuberculosis diagnosis – GeneXpert.

At the pharmacy, we provide all the medicines which are needed to treat the patients. For seriously ill patients, there are two rooms where patients can be temporarily admitted, they are discharged in the evening or sent to hospitals with inpatient treatment.

The clinic is managed by a couple of German doctors who founded it in 1993. Due to the long-standing, continuous presence of these experienced doctors, the clinic has earned a good reputation far beyond the borders of Lindi and the patients come from far away for medical examination. Some even come from the north of Mozambique, from Mtwara, Dar es Salaam or from Zanzibar. Together with more than 20 Tanzanian employees, the patients are examined and treated: three Tanzanian doctors, six nurses, four employees in the laboratory, a pharmacist, and other staff for the HIV clinic, the reception, etc. A scientific approach to the problems of a patient with culture-related explanation and support are particularly important for us.

Diabetes March

A special event every year is the solidarity march on World Diabetes Day, November 14th. In cooperation with government institutions, we march through Lindi, followed by a lecture for the participants and distribution of information material. In this way, we draw attention to the importance of this disease, which is now also common in Tanzania.

Support our work through donations

Thanks to donations from Europe, we have been able to purchase modern equipment and a computer system that connects all departments and makes work much easier. Thanks to the donation fund, patients who do not have enough money to pay for their treatment can also be examined and receive all their medication. To do this, we continue to need the support of donors from Germany and are grateful to them for their long-standing help.

Many people in Tanzania
do not have a health insurance that covers special examinations and treatment.

Lecture on diabetes and other non-communicable diseases

When someone gets sick, the family pays for the treatment, but sometimes people do not have enough money, especially in cases of chronic diseases or sudden serious illnesses.

For us, the donation fund is like a pot that is constantly refilled so that we can help everyone, even those who have very little money.
