Students of Lindi Secondary School

Learning that is fun: in beautiful surroundings, with well-qualified, friendly teachers and interesting teaching materials. Is that possible for the children of Lindi?

There are three government secondary schools in Lindi town and seven government primary schools, as well as three private or church primary schools and several private kindergartens. The villages also have primary schools, the larger ones have secondary schools as well. Some of the primary schools need renovation, and there is a lack of teaching materials such as books, copies for the students, etc.

There are rooms for natural sciences in the secondary schools, but sometimes they can hardly be used due to lack of water and electricity supply. Often there are not enough teachers and classrooms, so the teachers have to teach many students at the same time, in very cramped conditions. Sophia Breische, one of our founding members, has worked in one of the schools for some time. Afterwards she supported the teachers with contributions to copies, which make it easier to teach the students.

If we have sufficient funds, we can improve the premises in the schools, e.g. by renovation and repair works or grants for school desks and furniture. Assistance with the electricity and water supply of schools would also be an important task.

Young people from Germany who have finished their school could do an internship in one of the schools and convey new ideas to teachers and students, tell them about their experiences and get to know the culture and the special conditions of life in Tanzania.
